Introducing EPR Academy

Training for Packaging Compliance

Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) packaging laws are rapidly transforming how businesses manage packaging and compliance in the U.S.

With new requirements rolling out in states like California, Colorado, New Jersey, and Minnesota, many companies are navigating registration, data collection, and reporting for the first time. To help organizations meet these challenges, Washburn Consulting and Signalfire Group, a subsidiary of RRS, have launched the EPR Academy™ — a first-of-its-kind, on-demand training program built for compliance managers, sustainability professionals, and executives.

What the Academy Offers

The EPR Academy provides a clear, structured path through the complexity of packaging regulations:

  • State-by-state reporting timelines and requirements

  • Compostability and post-consumer recycled content standards

  • Producer Responsibility Organization (PRO) registration

  • Packaging optimization strategies and eco-modulation

  • International perspectives from the EU, UK, and Canada

Participants complete the self-paced program in about 4–6 hours and can earn a Certificate of Completion to demonstrate verified expertise. Enrollment also includes ongoing access to a Resource Library of checklists, glossaries, and regulatory updates.

“EPR laws are reshaping how companies think about packaging and sustainability. The Academy brings together the best knowledge in the field to give compliance managers and executives the confidence to act.

— Resa Dimino, Managing Partner of Signalfire Group and an instructor in the Academy

Expert Leadership

The program is led by Signalfire Group’s team of EPR policy experts, including Managing Partners Resa Dimino and Garth Hickle, along with a faculty of cross-sector leaders in sustainability, circular economy, and compliance. Their combined decades of experience in recycling, policy, and corporate strategy ensure the training is grounded in both regulatory knowledge and real-world application.

“EPR programs require companies to understand the rules, build internal systems, collect the right data, and issue timely reports. For many businesses, this is unfamiliar territory. The Academy cuts through complexity, making the requirements easier to understand and act on.

- Dr. Michael Washburn, Executive Director of EPR Academy
